Marquette County man convicted of torture sentenced to prison

MARQUETTE, MI— A Trenary man will spend at least 22 years in prison for torture and other felonies.

Branden Klyk, 34, was found guilty by a jury on July 14th of torture, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder by strangulation, and domestic violence, 3rd offense.

He was sentenced Thursday to 22-40 years on the torture and CSC charges, 10-15 years for unlawful imprisonment, 6-10 years in prison for each strangulation count, and 3-5 years on the domestic violence charge.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Klyk will not be eligible for parole until he’s served the minimum sentence of 22 years. He’s also required to register as a sex offender on Michigan’s public registry and will be subject to electronic monitoring for the rest of his life.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
