Man nabbed in human trafficking sting pleads to misdemeanor

HOUGHTON, MI— A Hancock man has pleaded to a misdemeanor in a child sex crimes case.

Juan Marin, 47, was arrested in July in an undercover operation by a human trafficking task force. He was originally charged with child sexually abusive activity, use of a computer to commit child sexually abusive activity, accosting a child for immoral purposes, and using a computer to commit a crime.

Marin pleaded guilty this week to accosting a child for immoral purposes, which was reduced to a misdemeanor. All other felonies were dropped.

Marin will be sentenced November 15th in Houghton County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
