Houghton County man enters into plea agreement in child pornography case

HOUGHTON, MI— A Hancock man has pleaded guilty in Houghton County Circuit Court to child pornography-related charges.

Dominic Barrette, 21, was arrested last August following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He was initially charged with possession of child sexually abusive material, nine counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, and ten counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Barrette pleaded guilty this week to one count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. All other counts were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Barrette faces up to 14 years in prison. Sentencing is set for March 22nd.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
