Keweenaw man sentenced to prison on federal meth charges

GRAND RAPIDS, MI— A Mohawk man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for distributing meth in Houghton and Keweenaw counties.

Gregory Knuuttila was charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of meth. He was arrested last July after police stopped his vehicle and found more than 207 grams of meth in the car.

Knuuttila’s criminal history started in 1996. Since then, he’s been convicted of more than 20 additional crimes, including robbery, breaking and entering, assault with a dangerous weapon, and domestic assault.

Knuuttila has been implicated in various other crimes in the Keweenaw and elsewhere. Anyone with information about his criminal activities is asked to call Michigan State Police at the Calumet Post at 906-337-5145.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
