Two headed to prison for Menominee County crimes

MENOMINEE, MI— Two people were sentenced to prison on various convictions in Menominee County Friday.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg says Charles Sholtz, 39, of Marinette was given 23 months to five years in prison for probation violations. He was originally convicted of bringing contraband into jail and assault of a jail employee and sentenced to a year in jail.

After his release, police investigated a number of thefts in Menominee and Marinette counties. This February, Sholtz was identified, arrested, and charged with probation violations.

Also on Friday, Robert Thyrion, 60, of Menominee was sentenced to two to five years in prison for operating while intoxicated, third offense.

In the initial case, police found him lying in the middle of 12th Avenue in Menominee in October of last year. Following an investigation, Thyrion was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

He pleaded guilty to OWI-3rd in January.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
