Man convicted of molesting Chippewa County child to spend up to 60 years in prison

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Georgia man has been sentenced to 37 to 60 years in prison for molesting a child in Chippewa County.

55-year-old James Morris, 55, was convicted by a jury in April of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of 2nd-degree CSC, and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.

During the trial, the victim shared that when she was 5 years old, she would go over to Morris’s home to play with other children. She testified that over the course of the summer of 2012, Morris began molesting her, showing her pornography and having her re-enact the depictions in the videos not only with him, but with other children in the home.

Morris lived in Georgia for a number of years. He was extradited to Michigan in 2022 to face charges.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
