Man sentenced for delivery of cocaine in Menominee

MENOMINEE, MI— A Milwaukee man has been sentenced in Menominee County to 46 months to 30 years in prison on drug and ammunition charges.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team started investigating Jymel Velazquez, 42, in July of last year. A search warrant executed at a Wilson residence uncovered two bags of crack cocaine and 14 rounds of ammunition.

Velazquez was found guilty in April of two counts of delivery/manufacture of cocaine, possession of cocaine, and possession of ammunition by a felon.

He was sentenced Tuesday in Menominee County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
