Door County man sentenced to 13 years in prison for sexually targeting MI minor

MARQUETTE, MI— A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to prison following his conviction in federal court of coercion and enticement of a minor.

Todd Stafford, 60, of Bailey’s Harbor, was accused of meeting the victim—who was under 16 years of age—online. He traveled from Wisconsin to Michigan twice in hopes of having sex with the minor.

The victim’s father found conversations and contacted law enforcement. He and officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department posed as the minor online and arranged to meet with Stafford in July of 2023. Stafford was arrested when he arrived at the designated meeting place in the U.P.

Stafford was convicted of coercion and enticement of a minor and two counts of travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. He was sentenced this week to 156 months in prison and five years of supervised release.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
