Former UP contractor headed for trial on fraud charges

MARQUETTE, MI— Trial has been set for a Sands Township man accused of defrauding customers through his contracting business.

Klint Miller, 33, is charged with seven counts of larceny by conversion over $20,000, seven counts of fraudulent use of contractor funds, and one count of conducting a criminal enterprise.

Investigation into his company, U.P. General Contracting, began in January of 2020. Clients told the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office they received an email from Miller saying he was closing the company. They were left with unfinished home projects that were paid for in advance.

Three additional projects have been identified in Alger and Delta counties, where Miller faces similar charges. The total estimated loss is more than $1.2 million.

Trial has been set for February 19 in Marquette County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
