Chippewa County man agrees to plea deal for threatening judge

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Sault Ste. Marie man has pleaded “no contest” to threatening a Chippewa County judge and prosecutor.

Clifford Milam, 26, pleaded to false report or threat of terrorism as a habitual 4th offender Friday.

In February of this year, Milam threatened the lives of an assistant prosecutor in the Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and a 50th Circuit Court judge who were handling cases against him.

The charge is a 15-year felony. The no contest plea includes a sentencing agreement of 5 to 15 years’ incarceration.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
