MSHS embezzlement suspect pleads, will be sentenced in January

MARQUETTE, MI— A woman charged with embezzling from the Marquette Senior High School athletics department has entered into a plea deal.

Stacey Kangas, 45, of Marquette, was originally charged last February with embezzlement—$100,000 or more and embezzlement, agent or trustee—$20,000 or more but less than $50,000.

A pretrial conference scheduled for Tuesday was canceled after Kangas agreed to plead no contest to the lesser charge. The charge of embezzlement—$100,000 or more was dropped.

Sentencing is set for January 16 in Marquette County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
