Pretrial set for Luce County man charged with resisting/obstructing an officer

NEWBERRY, MI— A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for a Newberry man accused of running away from a trooper.

Allen Wheeler, 30, is charged with resisting/obstructing an officer.

On December 10, a trooper from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post tried to stop Wheeler’s vehicle on a defective equipment violation. When the vehicle stopped, Wheeler jumped out and ran away.

State Police found Wheeler hiding in a nearby residence’s crawlspace.

He was arraigned on December 19. A pretrial hearing is set for Monday in 11th Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
