Negaunee City Councilmember sentenced for operating boat under the influence of liquor

MARQUETTE, MI— A member of the Negaunee City Council has been sentenced for crashing his boat into the Marquette Lower Harbor breakwall last September 13th.

Matt Howard, 54, pleaded guilty in October to possession of a non-narcotic substance and marine operation under the influence of liquor.

He was sentenced by Marquette District Court Judge Karl Weber Tuesday to 12 months’ probation. He must also pay hundreds of dollars in fines and perform six hours of community service.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
