Man involved in Three Lakes assaults sentenced

BARAGA, MI— One of three people arrested for felonious assault at a Baraga County motel in November has been sentenced.

Three people reportedly assaulted two other people at the Bear Paw Inn. Gunshots were also reported.

Austin Conn, 18, of Ishpeming was originally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. He pleaded no contest this week to a lesser charge of assault and battery.

Conn was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 12 months of probation.

The cases of the other two suspects, Jeremy Vetter, 24, of Michigamme and Alexis Hernandez, 21, of Michigamme are proceeding through the court system.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
