MARQUETTE, MI— Court hearings have been set for a Marquette husband and wife accused of locking their special-needs son in a closet for hours at a time.

Dr. Colin Irish, 57, and his wife Carrie, 49, are both charged with second-degree child abuse. They allegedly locked the 10-year-old in the closet without heat, blankets, or a pillow. He apparently only wore underwear and may have suffered frostbite.

Both suspects remain free on bond.

A probable cause hearing is set for Thursday and a preliminary hearing for March 13 in Marquette District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
