MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette Senior High School’s former athletic secretary has been ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution after she was sentenced for embezzlement.

Stacey Kangas, 46, pleaded no contest in December to embezzlement, agent or trustee—$20,000 or more but less than $50,000. A charge of embezzlement—$100,000 or more was dropped.

Kangas was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation.

Her restitution hearing was held Tuesday in Marquette County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
