Spalding man sentenced for egregious domestic assault

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee County man was sentenced last week for repeatedly assaulting his wife over a period of several hours.

Clifford Marcolette, 55, of Spalding, pleaded guilty in September to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was accused of committing a sustained assault on his wife at knifepoint last March.

Marcolette was sentenced Friday to 36 months to 10 years in prison.

Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg said it was one of the worst domestic assault cases he’d seen in his career.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
