Man who pleaded guilty to trafficking meth in Ironwood area sentenced to 13 to 30 years in prison

IRONWOOD, MI— An Ironwood man has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison on drug trafficking charges.

In October of 2024, a vehicle driven by Donald Morrison, 54, was stopped by the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team (GIANT) near Longyear Park in Ironwood. Police suspected he was transporting drugs from Duluth, Minnesota.

A search of the vehicle by K-9 Debwe indicated drugs. Officers discovered 82 grams of meth, along with drug paraphernalia, scales, notebooks containing other drug transactions, and contacts indicative of further deliveries in the area.

Morrison pleaded guilty to possession of meth within 1,000 feet of a park and conspiracy with intent to deliver meth. Five other charges were dismissed.

He was sentenced Friday to 13 to 30 years for the conspiracy charge and 1 to 3 years for possession near a park. The sentences will run concurrently.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
