Menominee woman's parental rights terminated after she's sentenced on a drug charge

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee woman has been sentenced to 18 months to 5 years in prison for attempted possession of meth.

County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg says Melissa Koeppler, 39, was on probation in December of 2024 when a related abuse and neglect case was instituted in the Family Division of 41st Circuit Court. The goal was to reunite Koeppler with her children, who had been removed from her care due to her drug use.

Several probation violations in 2025 resulted in additional jail time for Koeppler. She later pleaded guilty to two additional probation violations, for using meth and failing to report to her probation officer.

Koeppler’s parental rights to her four children have been terminated.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
