Another attorney running for Marquette County District Judgeship

Derek Swajanen

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette County attorney Derek Swajanen has entered the race for 96th District Court Judge.

Current Judge Roger Kangas is retiring.

Swajanen says his love for his hometown of Marquette is what prompted him to run. He has nearly 30-years of courtroom experience. Swajanen says he would like to focus on such topics as mental health and sobriety, in an effort to help keep offenders out of jail.

Other candidates in the race are Marquette County Chief Public Defender Patrick Crowley and Marquette lawyer William Nordeen.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
