SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A man charged with setting fire to Michigan State Police patrol cars, then shooting at them, could spend up to 40 years in prison.
James Itani, 41, of Orlando pleaded no contest to terrorism, assault with intent to murder, and third-degree arson in the 2023 incident in Sault Ste. Marie.
He was sentenced Tuesday to 25 to 40 years for the terrorism charge, 25 to 40 years for assault with intent to murder, and 5 to 10 years for the arson charge.
The sentences will be served concurrently and Itani was given credit for 935 days in jail.
