Man convicted on drug charges in GIANT investigation to spend up to life in prison

BESSEMER, MI— A Milwaukee man found guilty on various drug charges in connection with an investigation by the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team has been sentenced.

Last May, Isaac Sawyer, 32, was driving a vehicle in Ironwood containing an individual wanted on national warrants. Ironwood Public Safety officers arrested both men and a K-9 found drugs in the car.

Sawyer was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in prison for possession with intent to deliver meth, conspiracy to deliver meth, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and possession with intent to deliver heroin. He was also sentenced to serve one to 15 years for maintaining a drug house.

The maximum term was enhanced as Sawyer was additionally charged with being a four-time habitual offender.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
