Man who injured 2 in drunk driving incident will spend up to 10 years in prison

HOUGHTON, MI— A man involved in a Houghton County drunk driving crash that injured two people has been sentenced.

John Cook, 37, was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.21, or three times the legal limit, at the time of the January 2025 incident.

He pleaded no contest in December to operating with a high blood alcohol level, causing serious injury and operating while intoxicated, third offense.

Cook was sentenced in Houghton County Circuit Court Thursday to 3-10 years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
