Dickinson County resident to spend a year in jail for throwing Molotov cocktail

Zayn Arcand

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain resident has been sentenced for throwing a Molotov cocktail at the window of the Dickinson County Republican Committee headquarters last July.

Zayn Arcand, 20, was originally charged with arson and manufacture and possession of an explosive. Police say Arcand tried to light a rag in a bottle and threw it at a window, which shattered. Another broken glass bottle containing an unknown liquid and rag was found in the parking lot.

Arcand pleaded guilty in January to sending explosives with intent to frighten and arson—preparation to burn real property. A judge sentenced Arcand to a year in jail with credit for 34 days already served, 3 years of probation, and 240 hours of community service.
