Tavaris Jackson sentenced to life without parole

ESCANABA, MI— An Escanaba man convicted of killing his girlfriend and her unborn child will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Tavaris Jackson, 35, was found guilty by a Delta County jury in March of one count of first-degree murder, one count of assault of a pregnant individual intentionally causing miscarriage/stillbirth, and one count of felony firearms.

The body of Harley Corwin, 22, was found July 8, 2023, in a field in Ford River Township.

Jackson was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
