IRONWOOD, MI— A High Bridge, Wisconsin man has been sentenced on various drug charges in Gogebic County.

Last July, a vehicle driven by Erick Schutte, 56, was stopped in Wakefield. The car belonged to Dalani Leyva, who was being tracked by police for transporting meth to the Ontonagon area. She was asleep in the back seat.

During a search of the vehicle, police found meth, drug paraphernalia, and a glass smoking device. They discovered more meth and a torch on Schutte.

A jury found Schutte guilty of possession with intent to deliver meth, conspiracy to deliver meth, and possession of meth within one thousand feet of a public park. He was sentenced Tuesday to 6.5 to 20 years in prison for both the possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy charges and 1-2 years for possession of meth near a park.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
