McBain man arraigned in Bay Mills Township fatal accident

BAY MILLS TOWNSHIP, MI— A downstate man has been arraigned in connection with a fatal crash in Bay Mills Township last week.

Aaron Peterson, 46, of McBain was charged Friday with operating while intoxicated, causing death and operating while license suspended, causing death.

Michigan State Police were dispatched last Monday morning to W. Lakeshore Drive near W. Lake Street on a report of a head-on crash. They say a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Peterson crossed the centerline and struck a Ford Fiesta driven by a 62-year-old woman from the downstate town of Lake. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peterson seemed to be intoxicated. He was taken to hospitals in the Soo and Petoskey before being lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a $250,000 bond. His next court date is July 27.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
