Mackinac County stabbing suspect arraigned

ST. IGNACE, MI— Police have released the name of a man arrested for stabbing another man in Mackinac County Friday.

Michigan State Police say Maxwell Phillips, 18, of Little Lake, is charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon. He’s accused of stabbing another 18-year-old man following a verbal altercation.

Phillips was arraigned Monday. A probable cause conference is set for September 1 and a preliminary exam on September 9.

He remains lodged in the Mackinac County Jail on a $500,000 cash/surety bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
