Burton to spend up to 60 years in prison for sex crimes

MARQUETTE, MI— An Ishpeming man found guilty of criminal sexual conduct across five cases has been sentenced.

In May, a jury convicted 35-year-old Gerald Burton of four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct resulting in personal injury, one count of first-degree CSC—injury to an incapacitated victim, two counts of third-degree CSC—involving force or coercion, and two counts of fourth-degree CSC—involving force or coercion.

Burton will spend a minimum of 35 years and up to 60 years in prison for all five sentences, which will run concurrently.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
