Man accused of abusing Soo minor convicted in federal court

MARQUETTE, MI— A Pellston man has been convicted in Marquette federal court for sexually abusing a minor in Sault Ste. Marie.

Eric May, 39, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor. He was accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child between the ages of 12 and 15 between February and March of 2025. A witness testified that the abuse happened while the child was in May’s care.

May had also previously sexually exploited a different child, who was under 12 years of age at the time. His criminal history includes more than 10 felony convictions.

May will be sentenced this winter.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
