Navy sailor gets 60 months in prison for receipt of explicit photos from 11-year-old victim

LANSING, MI— A former sailor has been sentenced to five years in prison for receiving child sexually abusive material.

While enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Stephen Condreay, 22, of Braidwood, Illinois created a fake Snapchat profile and received explicit photos from an 11-year-old victim. He pleaded guilty in April to receipt of child pornography and was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

The Homeland Security Investigations Sault Ste. Marie office and Michigan State Police investigated the case.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
