Barbeau bound over for hitting man with snowmobile

ESCANABA, MI--   A Delta County man accused of hitting a Marquette man with his snowmobile on Garden Bay earlier this year has been bound over to circuit court. 

Douglas Barbeau, 27, of Garden allegedly struck a tip-up set by a 21-year-old Marquette man who was ice fishing on January 28.  The victim claims after he yelled at the snowmobiler, Barbeau came around again and struck the victim, breaking both his legs.  Police later found a snowmobile matching a description given by witnesses in the woods near his home.

Barbeau is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder—punishable by up to ten years in prison—and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious impairment or death—a five-year felony. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
