Ishpeming man who threatened wife with a knife going to prison

MARQUETTE, MI--   An Ishpeming man who pleaded no contest to threatening his wife with a knife in May has been sentenced to prison. 

On May 15 Ralph Emanuelson, 36, was arrested for holding the knife to his wife’s throat and throwing her to the ground.  Emanuelson later shot himself when police went to talk to him at his parent’s home.  He suffered only minor injuries. 

Emanuelson was charged with felonious assault and domestic violence, 3rdoffense.  He pleaded in June to assault with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced Friday to between 20 months and four years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
