Underwear thief identified

MARQUETTE, MI--   Police have released the name of the man suspected of stealing women’s underwear and swimsuits in the Republic Township area.

William Joseph Miller, 48, of Witch Lake—a registered sex offender—was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of larceny between $200 and $1,000 and breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property under $200.  He’s accused of taking the clothing from clothes lines and vehicles at camps on Witch Lake.

A preliminary exam is set for August 14 in Ishpeming District Court.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending. Anyone who has had female clothing or other items stolen in the area is asked to call Detective Lieutenant Stephen Kangas at 225-8470.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
