Man headed to court in Door County, WI killing

STURGEON BAY, WI (AP)--   The sheriff of Door County says an Illinois man has confessed to killing his girlfriend at a resort near Sturgeon Bay.

Sheriff Terry Vogel says the victim, 21-year-old Alisha Bromfield, and the 35-year-old suspect are from Plainfield, Ill. The victim's body was found at the Sand Bay Beach Resort near Sturgeon Bay Sunday.

Vogel says the suspect called the sheriff's department about noon Sunday from Sister Bay and said he had killed his girlfriend. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail. Sister Bay is about 30 miles from the resort. He's expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the couple attended a wedding Saturday night in Egg Harbor. The sheriff says it's the first homicide in Door County in about 11 years.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
