Bessemer man charged in wife's death

BESSEMER, MI--   A 50-year-old Bessemer man is charged in the disappearance and slaying of his 79-year-old wife, who was declared missing August 3. 

Kenneth Peters was arraigned Thursday in Gogebic County District Court on first-degree and second-degree murder charges and second-degree vulnerable adult abuse. 

Sheriff's officials and Michigan State Police arrested him Wednesday night.

The body of Ethel Grzena-Peters was found August 13 in Watersmeet Township.

Peters was ordered held without bond in the Gogebic County Jail.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 31. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
