Trial scheduled for sex offender accused of molesting boy

MARQUETTE, MI--   Trial has been scheduled for a Marquette man accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Axel Gabriel Acevedo, 28, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree CSC, and accosting a child for immoral purposes.

In August City Police discovered Acevedo was a sex offender who had not registered his address as required.  Officers went to the house where he was staying and found a 12-year-old male also living at the residence.  After police notified the boy’s family of Acevedo’s sex offender status, the victim’s mother brought the boy in, saying she believed her son had been assaulted.  Police later arrested Acevedo and searched his residence.

Acevedo pleaded not guilty to the charges by mail.  Trial is set for April 23 in Marquette Circuit Court.

Acevedo remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $650,000 cash bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
