Man sought in downstate shooting spree

WIXOM, MI (AP)--   A district has ordered the doors of some of its schools locked as police continue the search for whoever is responsible for a series of shootings last week in a three-county region of southeastern Michigan.

A task force of local and state police agencies is investigating the 20 reported shootings in Livingston, Oakland and Ingham counties. Most of the shootings were directed at cars on roads Tuesday through Thursday.

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools officials say students at schools in Wixom are having indoor recess, and schools' doors are locked on Monday. They're not sure how long the precautionary measures will remain in effect.

Authorities on Sunday released this drawing of a man suspected in the shootings.

Tipsters tell police he appears to be a white man in his 30s.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
