Police to scour I-96 for shooter over the weekend

Michigan State Police

WIXOM, MI (AP)--

Authorities investigating a shooting spree along the downstate Interstate 96 corridor plan to boost patrols Saturday as fans travel to a Michigan State football game.

There have been 24 shootings and one injury reported since October 16. Shootings have occurred in Oakland, Livingston, Shiawassee and Ingham counties.

Roads are saturated around the clock with marked and undercover police vehicles. Police put together a sketch of a possible suspect.

At least one western Michigan school district plans to avoid I-96 Saturday when students travel to Detroit for a band competition. Grandville Superintendent Ron Caniff says he'll "literally ... take the extra mile."

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
