Marquette man arrested for intent to deliver marijuana

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man was arrested for possession of marijuana after fleeing police last week.

City Police say Thursday around 9:25 p.m. they were dispatched to the 800 block of Preserve Drive on a report that a man possessed pot.  The subject—John Robert Okesson—was identified by a witness, but when officers tried to speak to him Okesson struggled and fled on foot.

Officers gave chase and called in a K-9 unit.  Okesson ran into some woods but eventually surrendered to police.  Officers say they used a tazer during the struggle with Okesson.

Investigation uncovered a bag containing six smaller bags of marijuana that Okesson apparently hid in the woods during the chase.  He’s charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and resisting and obstructing—both felonies.

Okesson remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
