Police investigate Ojibway inmate death

MARENISCO, MI--   An inmate at a Western U.P. prison has been killed by other inmates.

State Police from the Wakefield Post say the incident happened Friday at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco.

Troopers say Randolph Connor, 26, was repeatedly punched and kicked by two other inmates in the prison’s TV room.  He was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment, but died Saturday of severe head trauma.

Two prisoners are in custody for the assault.  They’ve been moved to a higher-security prison.

Connor was serving time for safe breaking, larceny, and home invasion.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
