Video helps Marquette Police identify theft suspects

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Police Department says social media helped them catch a couple of suspects in a wallet theft case.

Last Tuesday a man put his wallet on the bar at the Wild Rover and proceeded to put on his winter gear.  When he went to leave he realize the wallet had been taken.

Surveillance video of the incident revealed a female had covered the wallet with her arms, then slipped it into her coat.  She and a male friend then left the bar.

Police released the video to the media and also posted it on the Marquette Police Department Facebook page.  Officers say the posting received more than 6,000 views in the first 24 hours.

Through the video police have been able to identify the two people, but are not yet releasing any names.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
