Runaways arrested after fleeing police and crashing stolen vehicle

MARQUETTE, MI - Marquette City Police have arrested two youths after a short car chase. Officers say a vehicle failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of McClellan Avenue and west Washington Street at about 12:12 this morning.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued down McClellan before turning on to the dead end of Mildred Street where it struck a tree. 

The 16-year old female driver and her 17-year old female passenger were arrested, and the investigation revealed they had been consuming alcohol and that they were driving a vehicle stolen from Marquette. Also, both youths were reported as runaways.

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

The 16-year old was lodged in the Marquette County Youth Home for Operating While Impaired… Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile… and No Driver’s License.

The 17-year old was lodged in the Marquette County Jail for Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile… Minor in Possession of Alcohol… and Resisting and Obstructing Police.
