Carlson terminated from Alger County Jail

WLUC-TV

MUNISING, MI--   An Alger County sheriff’s deputy who pleaded no contest to assaulting an inmate has been fired.

William Carlson, 42, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with the assault of inmate George Young, 55.  Young is an area chiropractor who faces trial on sexual assault charges.  Carlson apparently knew one of the alleged victims in the case.

Carlson was put on administrative leave on December 31.  Marquette County District Judge Dennis Girard gave him a delay of sentence of 93 days in jail.  Carlson must successfully serve 12 months of probation, after which the charges will be dropped.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
