Suicidal Wakefield Township woman jailed

WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gogebic County woman is in custody after she barricaded herself in her house and threatened suicide.

Troopers at the Wakefield Post were investigating a traffic crash Monday and had gone to speak with the owner of the vehicle at a Wakefield Township residence.  They were informed by her son that she was threatening to kill herself and had a rifle and shotgun.

Troopers made contact with the woman, who repeatedly stated she wanted police to kill her and wouldn’t come out alive.  A male friend of the woman who was in the house was able to exit the residence with the rifle.

Troopers continued to talk with the woman with no positive results until they smelled natural gas.  At that point they entered the house and found the highly intoxicated subject in possession of a shotgun.  She had also turned on all the burners on the stove.

The woman was lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a charge of possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
