Intoxicated man on bike flees from State Police in Skandia Township

MARQUETTE, MI--   An Escanaba man is lodged in the Marquette County Jail for fleeing police on a motorcycle.

Troopers from the Negaunee post tried to stop the 22-year-old Wednesday just after 4 a.m. for speeding on US-41 near Dukes Road in Skandia Township.

The suspect took off and led police on a 25-minute high-speed chase, which ended when he lost control of his bike as he tried to turn around on the gravel shoulder of US-2.  The man wasn’t injured, and troopers took him into custody near County Road 511 in Delta County’s Masonville Township.

The suspect was arrested for fleeing and eluding police and operating while intoxicated.  His name has not been released, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
