U.P. man extradited to Louisiana for murder

ONTONAGON, MI (AP)--   A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Baton Rouge has been extradited to Louisiana from the Upper Peninsula. 

The Houghton Daily Mining Gazette in reports that Mason Chiapuzio was turned over Monday to law enforcement officials from Louisiana.

Ontonagon County Sheriff Dale Rantala says Chiapuzio was arrested in May in Gogebic County by Michigan State Police on an open murder warrant. Chiapuzio had been held in the Ontonagon County Jail while fighting extradition.

Chiapuzio has relatives in Gogebic County.

The Advocate reports that in April 2012, Brandon Harris, 29, was found shot to death in his Baton Rouge driveway. Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said robbery appeared to be the motive.

Baton Rouge police arrested three others in May.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
