Man subdued with taser following Marquette County chase

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   A Wisconsin man was tased by Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies after he fled from a traffic stop.

Saturday around 12:05 a.m. a deputy attempted to stop a Toyota Highlander for a traffic violation on County Road 550 and Sugarloaf Mountain.  The vehicle initially stopped, but then led police on a chase northward.

The chase ended at the entrance to Wetmore Pond.  Deputies boxed the suspect’s vehicle in with patrol cars as the 37-year-old driver backed up and tried moving forward again.  When he refused to turn off and exit the vehicle deputies deployed a taser and removed him.

The suspect is charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, operating while intoxicated, and driving with a revoked license.  He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
