ATV driver leads St. Ignace troopers on chase

ENGADINE, MI--   An Engadine man has been arrested for fleeing from police while on his ATV.

State Police from the St. Ignace Post say Robert Frey, 37, was seen driving his ATV on US-2 near Gould City on Saturday.  When troopers tried to stop him, Frey slowed down and appeared to pull over, but when they approached the ATV he took off at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued through Engadine, where officers say Frey drove on both sides of the roadway and nearly hit several vehicles.  He apparently struck a patrol car, causing minor damage.

The chase ended when Frey drove into Millecoquins Lake, landing about 20 yards from shore.  After a brief stand-off police waded into the lake and arrested him.

Frey is charged with fleeing and eluding and operating under the influence of alcohol.  He’s currently free on bond while awaiting a preliminary hearing.

Troopers were assisted by Deputies from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department.
