Arrest made in Palmer, Negaunee sexual assault cases

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Palmer man has been arrested for criminal sexual conduct in two separate investigations.   

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of sexual assault that allegedly took place in Palmer.  Deputies say 38-year-old Ronnie Edward Smith—also known as Zack Smith—is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13 years old.  He was also charged with being an habitual offender.

A subsequent investigation by the Negaunee City Police resulted in Smith also being charged with fourth-degree CSC with a victim between the ages of 13 and 17. 

Police say Smith has prior criminal sexual conduct convictions.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
